Plans are underway for Shands Vista Florida Recovery Center to move administrative offices and outpatient services to the Springhill office complex, which is currently under construction on Northwest 39th Avenue near Santa Fe Community College. The relocation is scheduled for early spring.

The move will create space for additional inpatient beds at Shands Vista, the 81-bed behavioral health hospital in Gainesville. Addiction specialists, including University of Florida College of Medicine psychiatrists, from Shands Vista Florida Recovery Center offer comprehensive treatment and assessment programs for persons with alcohol and drug abuse or dependence.

Shands Vista Recieves Magnet Designation

In May 2008, Shands Vista earned the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) “Magnet” status - the nursing profession’s most prestigious national honor for excellence.

Six Shands HealthCare facilities in Gainesville earned the Magnet status. This is Shands Vista’s initial Magnet designation. Shands at the University of Florida, Shands HomeCare, Shands Rehab Hospital, Shands Florida Surgical Center and Shands at UF Dialysis Center received redesignation.

Magnet hospitals must meet stringent quantitative and qualitative standards that define the quality of nursing practices and patient care. The application process includes comprehensive written documentation, which is validated by site visits. ANCC appraisers conducted on-site assessments of the Shands facilities from Feb. 18-21, 2008.
