Shands AGH
Shands AGH is a full-service, not-for-profit hospital that provides patient-driven healthcare for the whole person - body, mind and spirit. The 367-bed hospital has a strong focus in pediatrics, heart care, cancer care, women's health, maternal/child services, and emergency medicine. In 1998, Shands AGH became Florida's first hospital to affiliate with Planetree. The basic principles of Planetree, coupled with Shands AGH's mission to provide patient-driven healthcare for the whole person, makes this a unique healing environment. Physical therapists follow inpatient adult and pediatric patients for mobility training as well as inpatient and outpatient wound care. Shands AGH houses the only hospital-based outpatient wound clinic in the Shands system. Occupational therapy, physical therapy, and nursing collaborate to ensure that patients achieve maximum function. Occupational therapists work with patients to become as independent as possible. Performance includes self-care, work, play, and leisure. OTs work with NICU and pediatric patients (feeding, positioning, environmental modulation, fine motor, oral motor), orthopaedics (equipment, splinting, edema mgmt, ADL retraining), neuro/TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) and spinal cord (cognitive retraining, coma stimulation, visual deficits), burns, and UE trauma/injuries. Pediatric Rehab GymRehab Services at Shands AGH opened a pediatric gym in April 2007. The gym provides a quiet place away from the bedside to allow PTs, OTs, and STs to perform treatment sessions in an area more conducive to rehabilitation. It is equipped with floor and hydraulic mats, parallel bars, balance boards, a vestibular swing, a treadmill, an exercise bike, and various other rehab devices and toys that promote cognitive and motor development in pediatric patients.
