Residency in Oncology Pharmacy Practice
The residency in Oncology/Hematology/Bone Marrow Transplantation at Shands at the University of Florida is an ASHP-accredited program which provides specialized training in the pharmaceutical care of patients with solid tumors and leukemia. During the 12-month program, the resident develops clinical practice skills through direct patient care and didactic learning. Teaching and research skills are also developed. Throughout the year, the resident is an integral part of the healthcare team for each service. The resident provides comprehensive pharmaceutical service, including pharmacotherapy consults, pharmacokinetic analysis, drug information and intensive monitoring of each patient on service. The resident participates in all aspects of service, education and research in each clinical area. The resident will be responsible for required rotations and will have the opportunity to explore elective rotations throughout the year. While a resident at Shands at UF, each resident will:
A required project, which will directly affect oncology patient care and the practice of hospital pharmacy, will enable the resident to develop skills in clinical research, study design and statistical analysis. The project should lead to a publishable paper. StipendThe resident receives a $42,500 stipend paid by Shands at UF. The stipend, coupled with the comparatively low cost of living in Gainesville, should ensure a financially sufficient year. BenefitsSelected and matched applicants will receive partial reimbursement for interview expenses, when accompanied by receipts, at the beginning of the residency year.
