General Volunteer Information

Dress code

Volunteers are required to wear the royal blue polo shirt or the blue apron (over a white shirt) with khaki colored pants and a Shands volunteer ID badge. Badges, aprons or shirts may be picked up in the Volunteer Office. Shirts are $10, or you may place a $10 deposit on an apron. The deposit (less $1 processing fee) may be obtained when you return the apron and badge at the end of your volunteering. Volunteers in the Dental area may wear their personal scrubs as their uniform.

Please note: Shorts, mini skirts, legging, capri or sweat pants, and jeans are not allowed to be worn while volunteering.

Commitment

One complete semester- please do not apply if you cannot make this commitment. Volunteers are allowed two (2) absences during each semester. Those who have more than two absences during a semester must make up any additional absences within two weeks. Those who do not comply with this requirement will be dropped from the schedule, which will be noted in his or her volunteer records.

Parking

UF parking surrounds the Shands at UF facility. UF students should use their current campus parking decal.  Any other volunteers should contact the Volunteer Services Department  at 352.265.0360 for assistance.

Attendance

Volunteers are allowed two absences during each semester. Volunteers may make up any additional absences within two weeks of calling out if approved by the assigned area or Volunteer Coordinator. If you do not make up the absences, you will be dropped from the schedule and have it noted in your volunteer records.

Lockers

Volunteers must leave their personal belongings and medications inside lockersat the Volunteer Office. Locks are provided by the Volunteer Services department.
