Volunteen Program

The Volunteen Program is a summer program for students 14-17 years old who would like to spend some time in a hospital setting as a volunteer. Volunteens are assigned to various departments throughout the hospital and make a commitment to work specific days and times. Those volunteering in a nursing unit will interact with staff and patients as needed and will be under the supervision of the staff.

Volunteen applications are available in March. The program runs from mid-June to early August.

Typical Volunteen responsibilities include:

  • Running errands to labs, pharmacy, central supply and other departments
  • Assisting patients through reading and writing letters
  • Offering time and attention to patients when staff is backed up with other responsibilities
  • Assisting with clerical jobs such as typing, filing or answering phones
  • Assisting with computers
