Patients and families traveling to Gainesville for medical treatment from Shands at UF may need assistance in finding lodging for an extended visit. Below is a list of lodging in Gainesville available to patients and families:

The Transportation, Lodging and Care Program

The Shands Transportation, Lodging and Care Program (TLC) is available to patients and families who need to stay in Gainesvlle overnight. The program provides discounted rates and other services at a nearby hotel. For more information, please call 352.265.0005.

Transplant Housing

Patients receiving a transplant at the Shands Transplant Center must stay near Shands at UF for a short period of time after they are discharged. Patients who live further than one hour away from Shands at UF are eligible to stay in Shands Transplant Housing, located less than 100 yards from the main entrance to the hospital. The two-story building has furnished apartments that have a kitchen, full bathroom, lounge area, and closet space.

Ronald McDonald House

The Ronald McDonald House is a 30-bedroom house established for use by the parents and families of children being treated at Shands Children's Hospital and physician's medical practices. For a modest donation, families can stay at the house, located within walking distance of Shands. The Shands at UF Admissions Department is happy to assist you with making arrangements to stay at the house. For more information, contact the Admissions Department at 352.265.0236.

American Cancer Society's Winn-Dixie Hope Lodge

Hope Lodge provides comfortable, temporary housing for out-of-town patients who are receiving cancer treatment. It is capable of serving up to 45 patients plus one companion per patient. Hope Lodge is located at 2121 SW 16th Street, which is within walking distance to Shands at UF. You can also ride the Shands at UF Visitor-Parking Shuttle. Please note that patients must be referred to Hope Lodge by a Shands at UF social worker. If you would like to stay at Hope Lodge, please call the Shands Patient and Family Resources Department at 352.265.0224.
