Breastfeeding Services

Shands AGH Maternal/Child Services encourages all mothers to breastfeed. The American Academy of Pediatrics promotes breastfeeding as the optimal choice of nutrition for your baby during the first year of life. The American Academy of Pediatrics states that ideally, babies should be breastfed exclusively for the first six months. It is further recommended that breastfeeding continue for at least 12 months, and thereafter as long as mutually desired.

All babies begin eating solids around five to six months of age, but breastfed babies can continue to enjoy the benefits of breastfeeding.

By choosing to deliver your baby at Shands AGH, your decision to breastfeed will be respected by our staff of caring nurses and lactation consultants.
