HeartCare Center

The HeartCare Center at Shands AGH features a highly trained cardiovascular staff, including:

  • board-certified interventional cardiologists
  • vascular surgeons
  • radiologists

For your convenience, the HeartCare Center at Shands AGH offers a variety of same-day procedures and patients have immediate access to full hospital services when necessary.

Shands AGH hospital is one of a handful of sites in the country conducting a Duke University heart study where cardiologists are attempting to give artery-opening treatments to heart-attack patients faster. By reducing “door-to-balloon” time, which is the interval between the time a patient arrives in the Emergency Department and the first inflation of an angioplasty balloon in a blocked artery, they hope to preserve more healthy heart tissue and ultimately save lives.

The staff is accommodating to the patient's family, providing the patient with a private, pre-operative and post-operative room where family members can stay with their loved ones. Family members have easy access to reserved parking directly next to the HeartCare Center.

The staff also offers comprehensive written and verbal education to all our patients and is available to answer any questions.

Invasive Cardiology Procedures

The HeartCare Center offers invasive cardiology procedures such as:

Non-Invasive Procedures

The HeartCare center also offers non-invasive procedures such as:

Interventional Labs

The center's interventional lab is designed to meet the needs of an interdisciplinary team of physicians including cardiologists, vascular surgeons and radiologists.

The lab enables a cardiac patient to receive several procedures in the same setting, from lab work to a stress test to a heart catherization if needed.

The lab also serves patients with peripheral vascular disease and features a dual-plane imaging system with two cameras to view the coronary arteries and the peripheral arteries.

The lab also features a private family viewing room where family members can look at the before and after pictures of their loved one's arteries to see the results.
