At Shands, we are proud of our record of healthcare-industry “firsts” and achievements, earning us the reputation as one of the nation’s most highly respected healthcare organizations. In our academic medical centers, UF faculty physicians have pioneered new medical technologies and clinical services. We're taking science from the laboratory bench to our patients’ bedsides and benefiting people who come from across the nation to receive highly complex, specialized care from the teams in our facilities. Meanwhile, in some rural north-central Florida communities, Shands is the only healthcare provider in the area offering basic primary and preventive care as well as 24-hour emergency care. By providing valuable community-based healthcare resources in several smaller communities, local residents don’t have to leave town for their care.
